Professor Irena Woodruff

Irena Woodruff is a highly credentialed language instructor and cultural advisor with over two decades of experience teaching Russian and Latvian at the highest professional levels. She has taught military personnel at the Department of Defense and Defense Language Institute, trained U.S. diplomats at the Foreign Service Institute, and instructed students at Berlitz and multiple Washington DC-area language institutions.

Her teaching approach combines rigorous linguistic instruction with deep cultural knowledge — helping students not just speak the language, but understand the people and context behind it. Lessons are available one-on-one or in groups, in-person in the Alexandria area or via Zoom anywhere in the world.
